Explore the unconventional desert amenity of Tempe Town Lake by land and water and learn about the history of the lake along with the waterfront developments that have populated its banks. This interactive excursion will include a tour of the lake via an electric boat and an illuminating presentation on future projects along the Rio with stunning views from a waterfront property. Come learn about the challenges and victories in reclaiming and reimagining the Rio, waterfront developments, and the potential opportunities this once perennial river holds for the Valley.

Café y Comunidad: An Exploration of Latinidad in Phoenix’s Local Coffee Scene.

Come check out local coffeeshops that highlight the entrepreneurial spirit and culture of Phoenix’s Latinx Community. Enjoy a coffee of your choice as each shop owner highlights their story, challenges being a minority owned business, and how their culture has translated into a coffee shop as a “Third Place.” Explore themes of creative place making and community building as you learn about local cultural influences in coffee with traditional Mexican Café, rich espresso, and modern renditions of lattes with a Latinx flair.

Suburban Downtowns of the Southeast Valley: Stories of Transformation 

Spend the morning experiencing the transformation of three suburban downtowns and hearing from the people who are on the ground effecting change every day. We will start by visiting Downtown Chandler where you can get a cup of coffee at Peixoto Coffee and learn about the redevelopment of a historic downtown. Next, we will head to the Gilbert Heritage District where we will hear about how, through strategic planning, it is building a downtown from the ground up. Finally, we will stop in Downtown Mesa to learn about how transit and university partnerships have had transformative effects. This mobile workshop will include walking around each downtown.

Paths & Partnerships; the Art of Bicycle Planning in Scottsdale- Monday AM

The early bird catches the worm in this bike-bound mobile tour. Ride along the Pima Path and Arizona Canal Path as you explore art, infrastructure, and development in Scottsdale. Hear presentations from a representative of Salt River Project and Scottsdale Transportation Planners on the topic of easements, waterfront development, partnerships, and the importance of art in community and transportation planning.

Cost: $35 for mobile tour if providing personal bike and transportation. 

Additional $35 for bike and helmet rental provided by the Bike Emporium plus transportation to and from the Bike Emporium


From the Sonoran Desert to the Foothills of the Cascades: Wine Economies

Enjoy an afternoon of education and discussion surrounding wine economies, viticulture and the art of wine making. We will begin with a virtual tour of multiple wineries located throughout Arizona and Washington State in video format which includes behind the scenes footage of fermentation and bottle rooms with interviews from owners, employees, wine economists and wine enthusiasts. We will continue our discussion at the LDV Tasting Room in Old Town Scottsdale where a tasting will be provided from the wineries highlighted during the virtual tour.
