 Under direction of the Planning Manager, perform a variety of responsible and complex planning duties involved in support and coordination of projects within the Planning Division; and to provide general information and assistance to the public.

 

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform a wide variety of responsible and complex planning duties in support and coordination of projects within the Planning Division.

  • Plan, organize, and carry out planning assignments; research, compile, and organize information and data from various sources on a variety of specialized topics related to planning programs.

  • Manage and review development applications such as site plans, subdivisions, land use referrals, conditional uses, variances, rezones, and annexations, including preparing written reports, coordinating with City departments and outside groups, and overall project management.

  • Conduct research and prepare studies, making recommendations for specific plans, neighborhood plans, Development Code updates, Comprehensive Plan updates, and other planning projects.

  • Assist with community-wide planning initiatives, including master plans, land use plans, and other studies.

  • Assist in the revision of zoning ordinances, subdivision regulations, design standards, and other regulatory controls.

  • Represent the Planning Division and the City at public meetings.

  • Prepare ordinances, resolutions, and using ArcGIS to create maps.

  • Create presentation materials for the public, boards, commissions, and city council.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS: (Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required skills, and abilities would be qualifying.)

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of urban and regional planning.

  • Familiarity with the laws, codes, and regulations pertaining to planning.

  • Ability to research, compile, and prepare a variety of planning reports.

  • Proficiency in using GIS software and other planning tools.

  • Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing.

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.

  • Experience in community engagement and project management is preferred.

  • AICP certification is preferred or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

     

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work in a standard office environment.
