Position Summary
Planner I - $4,370.00 - $6,552.00 Monthly: Is the entry-level classification in the professional planning series. The Planner I performs a variety of routine and well defined professional planning duties.
Planner II - $4,805.00 - $7,207.00 Monthly: Is the journey level classification in the professional planning series. The Planner II performs a variety of complex specialized professional planning duties.

What You Will Do
Planner I: $4,370.00 - $6,552.00 Monthly
Assists the public by answering inquiries and providing information concerning land use regulations, policies and procedures.
Accepts, reviews and evaluates various land use applications; prepares and presents staff reports, including but not limited to power point presentations, analysis and recommendations.
Assists in the analysis and drafting or refinement of land use regulations and procedures.
Assists in the development and execution of methods to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of adopted regulations, procedures, plans, programs and strategies.
Assists with meetings involving the general public, special interest groups, County staff, County boards and commissions and any others as assigned.
Responds to requests for information from citizens, developers and others for a wide variety of inquiries including, but not limited to, County plans, policies, procedures, regulations and pending development and building permit applications.
Researches various planning projects that involve field studies, surveys and data analysis.
Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned including creation of maps, research of properties and associated land uses and typing of findings or correspondence as requested by other planning staff.
Performs Planner-On Call duties to assist the public and customers of the Department with completion, review and acceptance of zone district standard forms and application, subdivision laws, regulations and procedures; Issuance of zoning authorization for building permits to include plot plan for compliance.
Performs other duties as appropriate for performance of the job.
Planner II: $4,805.00 - $7,207.00 Monthly
Reviews non-administrative and administrative land use cases.
Updates GIS zoning maps.
Updates Planning database.
Assists the public by answering inquiries and providing information concerning land use and subdivision regulations, policies and procedures.
Accepts, reviews and evaluates various land use and subdivision applications; prepares and presents staff reports, including but not limited to power point presentations, analysis and recommendations.
Assists in the analysis and drafts or refinement of land use and subdivision regulations and procedures.
Assists in the development and execution of methods to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of adopted regulations, procedures, plans, programs and strategies.
Conducts complex planning studies/subdivision research on a wide range of subjects including, but not limited to land use, subdivision, zoning, population and economic trends, natural resource protection, housing needs and affordability and growth management.
Conducts meetings involving the general public, special interest groups, County staff, County boards and commissions and any others as assigned.

What You Have
Planner I:
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree in Urban or Regional Planning or closely related field required.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of one year of professional experience in Urban or Regional Planning preferred.
Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the above knowledges, skills and abilities may be substituted.
LICENSE:
Valid driver’s license at time of hire required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must successfully pass background check required.

Planner II:
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree in Urban or Regional Planning or closely related field required.
OR
Master’s Degree in Urban or Regional Planning can substitute for two years of professional experience.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of three years of professional experience in Urban or Regional Planning required.
Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the above knowledges, skills and abilities may be substituted.
CERTIFICATE:
American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) preferred.
LICENSE:
Valid driver’s license at time of hire required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must successfully pass background check required.
