Transportation Planner, Data Analyst
The Mid-Region Council of Governments seeks an entry- to mid-level, full-time transportation planner to join our multi-disciplinary team at the Mid-Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (MRMPO).
As part of the MPO team, you’ll focus on urban growth trends and future development plans to support metropolitan transportation plans. Analyzing socioeconomic data will be a core part of your job, including: compiling publicly available datasets from the Census Bureau and other sources; analyzing population, housing, and employment trends; performing economic impact analysis; creating demographic profiles; and tracking land use patterns. You will have the opportunity to be trained on state-of-the-practice tools and software including Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) and various forecast models. In this role, you will be a valued part of the MPO team working to equip decision-makers with information about where people live, where they work, how they travel, and how those things are expected to change in the future.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Economics, Mathematics, Geography, or a relevant field.
Analytical thinker who is curious about data.
Self-starter who takes initiative on projects.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Planning, Economics, Mathematics, Geography, or a relevant field.
3 or more years of experience in a relevant field.
Experience working with tabular and spatial data.
Responsibilities and Opportunities
Curiosity, willingness to learn, and on-the-job learning are key to success in this position; the following skills may be developed in this position:
Collect, process, analyze, and interpret socioeconomic data.
Become a data ambassador for the MPO Team:
Collaborate with other planners to identify data needs and solve problems.
Present your work to our board, member agencies, and other stakeholders.
Work with tabular data in Microsoft Excel or similar software.
Work with spatial data in desktop and online GIS software (Esri ArcGIS).
Work with land use and/or economic models, such as REMI and UrbanSim.
Visualize data for inclusion in planning documents and online.
Keep up-to-date with the state of the practice, including conferences, emerging methods, and new data releases.
Salary and Benefits
Salary will be commensurate with experience and is within the range of $50,960 - $73,112 annually. This position offers full benefits including health, dental, and vision coverage, vacation and sick leave, group life insurance, and enrollment in the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) of New Mexico. Optional benefits including flexible spending plans and health and fitness memberships. Located west of downtown, the MRMPO is located in an amenity-rich area, on the A.R.T. line, has bike lockers, and free parking.
