Mid-Senior Transportation Planner

The Mid-Region Council of Governments seeks a mid to senior-level, full-time transportation planner to join our multi-disciplinary team at the Mid-Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (MRMPO).

As part of the MPO team, you’ll support a forward-thinking metropolitan transportation planning program in the areas of congestion management, safety, and multi-modalism. The MPO highlights the critical connection between land use and transportation to identify and prioritize future transportation infrastructure investments. You will assist in defining those priorities by facilitating an inter-agency group of transportation professionals in the collection, evaluation and presentation of information needed for infrastructure planning. Committed to a data-driven process, this position facilitates the collection and analysis of travel data such as traffic volumes, travel speeds/times, person movement, crash statistics, and transportation accessibility to inform decision-makers and measure corridor and systemwide performance.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Civil Engineering, Public Administration or related field.

  • 3 or more years of experience in a relevant field.

  • Experience working with tabular data or curiosity to learn.

  • Self-starter who takes initiative on projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Planning, Civil Engineering, Public Administration or related field.

  • 5 or more years of experience in transportation planning using quantitative analysis.

  • Experience working with spatial data in GIS software (Esri ArcGIS)

Responsibilities and Opportunities

Curiosity and desire to seek out learning opportunities are key to success in this position.

  • Provide leadership to an inter-agency committee of transportation planning professionals.

  • Update the transportation project selection process including project scoring criteria.

  • Update and assist member agencies with the implementation of the regional safety plan.

  • Collect and analyze crash statistics and update the High Fatality and Injury Network.

  • Facilitate updates to transportation analysis tools and dashboards.

  • Conduct before and after studies to evaluate the effectiveness of transportation projects.

  • Support multimodal planning, transit planning and Complete Streets design principles.

  • Present findings to committees, stakeholders, and elected officials.

  • Prepare plans, documents, and online visualizations as needed.

  • Keep up-to-date with the state of the practice, including attending conferences, learning new methods, and seeking innovative approaches to transportation planning.

Salary and Benefits

Salary will be commensurate with experience and is within the range of $57,200 - $80,475 annually. This position offers full benefits including health, dental, and vision coverage, vacation and sick leave, group life insurance, and enrollment in the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) of New Mexico. Optional benefits including flexible spending plans and health and fitness memberships. Located west of downtown, the MRMPO is located in an amenity-rich area, on the A.R.T. line, has bike lockers, and free parking.
