Western Governors’ Association to launch Rural West Initiative; Needs your input

The Western Governors’ Association is launching an initiative in July 2019 to examine the challenges facing rural western communities and identify strategies to improve economic development opportunities, infrastructure, and quality of life in the rural West. The initiative, Reimagining the Rural West, will provide a forum for states to share best practices and success stories and to develop bipartisan policy solutions.

SURVEY

WGA invites you to share your perspective to help shape the initiative. The hurdles rural communities face today are wide ranging and we hope to gather knowledge from participants of various backgrounds and expertise. Your input will help WGA prioritize policy issues to discuss with stakeholders at workshops and webinars being planned for the initiative. We ask for a few minutes of your time to complete a short survey with any information you may feel is relevant to the goals of the initiative.

Please fill out any of the information requested below that you can provide. You do not need to fill out every question to submit your survey. Responses are requested by March 29, 2019.

ABOUT THE INITIATIVE

In July 2019, WGA will launch Reimagining the Rural West, the central policy initiative of incoming WGA Chair, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum. The Initiative will examine challenges and opportunities for rural economic development, infrastructure and quality of life with the goal of recommending policy changes and best practices to better support vibrant and enduring rural communities in the West. As part of this Initiative, WGA will convene stakeholders and policymakers to discuss emerging issues, share best practices and success stories, and provide a forum for the development of bipartisan policy solutions.

This survey is intended to help WGA design the Initiative by identifying:

  1. priority issues for gubernatorial leadership

  2. best practices in community and economic development in the West

  3. federal policy issues for potential WGA advocacy

  4. individuals or organizations interested in participating in workshops and other opportunities for engagement
